Theme and Symbol of Chapter 26

The theme of family and fellowship and also those that are in the same situation is reinforced in chapter 26. In the Joad family they all have to stick together to help the family stay alive. If it weren't for the whole family working in the field picking peaches, barely any food would be put on the "table" for the family to eat. Even less food than they are getting. Everyone in the family sticks up for each other and makes sure that none of them are getting anymore than the others. The man in the store gave Ma a dime to get sugar because he was very possibly in the same situation as Ma and the Joad family. He decided that it wouldn't hurt to much if he lent her a dime since he knew that she had money about to come in. Then later in the chapter, Tom decides he is going to leave as to not get the family into trouble. Of course Ma puts her foot down and says no. After they leave the peach farm they go to the cotton farm. Here the Joad family works while Tom hides in the culvert. The Joad family sneaks food to him. This is just another sign of family and how they stick together to get things done. They also don't want to lose anymore family member, but even though Tom can't work because of his face, the family still feeds him and doesn't want him to go away.

The house that they lived in at the peach farm was really crappy. It is a symbol of the Company taking advantage of unfortunate people.

Great Gatsby Movies

The first Great Gatsby is WAY better. In the first Great Gatsby the acting is so much better and they follow the plot of the book better. The costumes in the first one were very well organized and fit in with the 1920's and the music also follows the theme of the 1920's. In the second movie they give away the ending of the movie at the beginning which I think is really stupid. Gatsby doesn't make Klipspringer play the piano in the second one and he does play the piano in the book. Also Gatsby's car is white not yellow in the movie. The acting in the second movie was terrible. They were never in character, they just acted different than, if you had read the book, you would have expected them to look and act. Daisy was not annoying and she was too smart. In the second movie they leave out parts of the story that I think should be there. I think that they should have made a bigger deal about the first party at Gatsby's house. All in all the first movie was way better and that is the one I would suggest watching. If you want the book ruined for you even if you have read it watch the new Great Gatsby movie.

Dear Diary,

I am so sad and excited at the same time. Today I met Jay Gatsby again, after five years. He is rich now and has an amazing house which holds beautiful shirts. The most beautiful shirts I have ever seen. I know what I want. I want Gatsby, but I have Tom now and he is a good husband. He does so much for me and he gives me nearly everything I want and I shouldn't just give it all away. But then again I should have waited for Gatsby to come back from the war. I loved him and he loved me. I think that I still love him. I also think that I should probably think about this a little more and get back to you.

Fennimore Cooper's Literary Offences

1. I don't think I understand.!.!.!.
2. I learned that Cooper doesn't follow the 19 rules governing literary art in the domain of romantic fiction and that he is unrealistic. He also uses to many details on unimportant subjects.
3. It kind of confused me but I slightly think that maybe Mark Twain is putting his emotion and feeling into the characters of Huck Finn to reflect on how he feels about other writings. I also learned that Mark Twain is a hypocrite because he said himself that he is guilty of breaking some of the rules also.

"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation."
Most men live the lives that they are forced to have. They live the way they have to and not the way they want to. Kind of like they live quiet boring lives and don't really follow there dream. They just live whatever comes there way. I think that it also means that some people are hiding how they really feel even though they wish to live another life. Some people would love to be doing something else but they are following society and doing what is only asked of them.

Hills Like White Elephants

I think that Jig kept the baby. 'I feel fine; There's nothing wrong with me. I feel fine.' And I think that the man left her because he keeps hinting that he wants her to get rid of the baby so he doesn't feel guilty about leaving her. 'I know you wouldn't mind it, Jig. It's not really anything. It's just to let the air in.' But I am not sure wether the baby is born or not because of the consumption of alcohol. 'Yes. Two big ones.' 'We want two Anis del Toro.' 'Should we have another drink?'
